There’s no better time than now to start getting into electric vehicles, with petrol prices constantly rising, an electric vehicle is a sure way to save you more money in the long run.
However, now new buildings and those that are undergoing big renovation works, will now have to include charging points for electric vehicles if they have more than 10 car parking spaces.
But this isn’t just for new buildings, existing buildings that have more than 20 spaces will also have to make sure to include them.
This is to contribute towards the commitment to the clean energy transition, and on the back of the requirements under the EU directive on energy performance of buildings.
Why Go Electric?
One of the main reasons to go electric, is due to the ban on the sale of new petrol and diesel cars by 2030. This is pushing the UK towards a cleaner, more eco-friendly country – therefore the push to get more charging points is as important as ever.
From November 2020, there was over 20,000 charging devices in the UK, meaning a driver was never more than 25 miles away from a ChargePoint.
Not only are these cars great for the environment, they also have big savings on fuel costs, servicing and car parking. Public charging stations cost on average around 35p per Kwh, and charging at home, during off peak hours will cost you about 12p per kWh. So, instead of paying over £35 on a tank of petrol, it will only cost you a few pounds in electricity!
