More Major Cities Consult on Clean Air Zones

Electric Vehicles Clean Air Zones

More major cities have launched public consultations into reducing air pollution. Leading the way are Bristol and Sheffield, who recently launched such consultations. The cities plan to reduce the excessive amounts of nitrogen dioxide (NO2) emissions in the air within the shortest time. The focus is to reduce the use of high pollution-causing vehicles in specific zones of the cities.

If you are a business looking to revamp your fleet with smarter, greener vehicles, then Carryway can be your valuable partner. With over 16 years of industry experience, we specialise in electric utility vehicles, compact electric vans and golf buggies.

Sheffield’s Clean Air Zone to be Launched in 2021

Sheffield City Council is already holding discussions to develop a Class C Clean Air Zone in the city’s inner ring road. The Council plans to launch the Zone in 2021.

This Zone will allow the entry of high-polluting vehicles including buses, coaches, vans, taxis and HGVs (Heavy Goods Vehicles) for a fee. Private cars have been exempted from the rule.

Sheffield to Charge Vehicles Non-Compliant with Euro 6 and Euro 4 Emission Standards

Sheffield City Council will levy a fee on vehicles that fail to adhere to Euro 6 2016 emission standards (applicable to diesel vehicles), and Euro 4 2006 emission standards (applicable to petrol vehicles).

Vehicles including coaches, buses, HGVs, private hire vehicles and taxis will now pay a charge for not adhering to the required emission standards. The fee details are as follows:

  • Coaches, buses and HGVs – £50 per day
  • Private hire vehicles and taxis – £10 per day
  • LGVs (Light Goods Vehicles) and vans – £10 per day

The Council has invited the public and businesses to participate in discussions regarding this latest development. Called the “Clean Air Conversation”.

Bristol to Choose Between 2 Options for Reducing Air Pollution

Bristol City Council is considering creating a Clean Air Zone as Option 1. As part of this proposal, high pollution-causing vehicles including coaches, buses and HGVs would be charged £100 a day for entry into the Zone. LGVs and taxis would have to pay £9 per day for entering the Zone. Private cars would be exempted.

HGVs would be required to comply with weight restrictions too, under Option 1 when using the most polluted routes.

A ban on diesel cars is also being considered as part of this option – cars using the Park Row and Upper Maudlin Street, along the stretch from St James Barton roundabout to Park Street, in the specified timing between 7 am and 3 pm, would be banned on all days of the week.

The Council plans to encourage diesel drivers to give up their vehicles through a scrappage scheme that offers £2,000 for surrendering such vehicles.

Option 2 involves banning all diesel cars using a specified central area from 7 am to 3 am. Private hire vehicles and taxis running on diesel are exempt from the rule.

The Council has specified several venues that the public can visit to share their opinions and discuss the options in detail.

The health hazards brought about by severely polluted air are well-known. In Sheffield, air pollution leads to 500 deaths annually. Given these insights, conversations regarding the reduction of air pollution are more significant than ever.

With their respective pollution reduction initiatives, Sheffield and Bristol are in the footsteps of cities such as Leeds and Birmingham, which have already put their pollution-reducing plans into motion. Both the cities received formal approval as well as funding for their plans in 2018.

Paul Bush OBE – Director of Events, VisitScotland

The Carryway operation was run very professionally and smoothly and to a very high standard. Their knowledge and attention to detail with the complicated planning and logistics involved were exceptional; they were a pleasure to deal with and I can highly recommend their services.

Rachel Mitchell – Senior Manager for Golf Events, IMG Golf

It has been a delight to deal with Carryway, who were our Official Golf Buggy Supplier for The 2019 Solheim Cup. They combine efficient logistics with a professional approach to every aspect of delivery, and the equipment our event benefited from was both functional and stylish. A big thank you to a wonderful Partner.

Dave Player, Team Brit Racing – CEO

The Carryway buggy was a lifesaver – and that’s no exaggeration! We were racing in the Aston Martin Le Mans Festival, which is a 45 mins support race just before the start for the big 24hr race. Our garages were about 2km away so getting all our gear to/from the pitlane for the race was made so simple because of the buggy! And it would have taken (the team) ages to get there and back! We are enormously proud of our new buggy and the livery made for it. It helps us stand out and helps raise our profile, not to mention being an essential team donkey.”

Simon Widowson – Event Men

Thank you Carryway for supplying the buggy for us at Chatsworth this year. All went well and no issues at all – it was a definite improvement on the equipment supplied last year by a different company. Happy to use you again for next year .

Daryn Cochrane – Head of Golf & PGA Professional, The Westerwood Hotel & Golf Resort

Thank you for the excellent customer service that we recently received from Hugh Healy, Carryway Support. Hugh was very thorough and had excellent communications with us regarding our buggy fleet at The Westerwood Resort – nothing was too difficult for him.

Caring For Life / Charity – Carl Rayner

Our open day event is a very important day for us, and it makes life much easier to have a relationship with a company (Carryway) that we can rely on each year.

Carryway are always a pleasure to deal with and their drivers are always friendly and professional. It takes a little bit of worry out of my job knowing that I can rely on your good service.

Many thanks to the team, especially Adam who was friendly, helpful and professional.

Nick Rushworth – Golf Operations Director, MacDonald Linden Hall

It is a pleasure to work with Carryway, the service and support they provide has been first class. We originally signed up for 14 brand new buggies for one year to sample working with the company.

We were pleased with the service and the product provided and have since signed up for the next few seasons and hopefully with many more to come after that.
