We are now seeing an ever-greater emphasis on the environment and climate change. In recent news we have witnessed nations come together in Poland to agree on a range of measures which will see the Paris Climate Pact become operational in 2020.
Speaking at the conference, naturalist Sir David Attenborough addressed world leaders saying “Right now, we are facing a man-made disaster of global scale. Our greatest threat in thousands of years. Climate change.”
This agreement, signed by 200 nations, will require all countries globally to follow a set of standards for tracking their own climate policies and measuring their own planet-warming emissions.
With these agreements in place, the UK government will now begin to look closely at how they can meet their emissions targets and what they can do to encourage local councils to take up sustainable energy projects, which also must be cost-effective and feasible in relation to their budget restrictions.
Here at Carryway our range of zero emissions smarter service vehicles can offer a solution to both.
Often based on outdated information, electric vehicles have wrongly been viewed as inefficient and costly. However technological advances in both batteries and vehicle technology have made these views redundant, with many vehicles now not only ticking the zero-emissions box, but also proving cost-effective to purchase, run and maintain.
As the UK government continues to increase pressure on both councils and businesses to reduce carbon emissions, many are now looking at changing their operational vehicle fleets from polluting diesel vehicles to zero emissions electric vans and trucks.
At Carryway our zero emissions, fully electric Esagono Van/Truck can be tailored to meet different applications, such as waste management, city centre deliveries and inner-city cleaning facilities.
Along with being extremely versatile and 100% zero-emissions, the cost of running this electric vehicle compared to a traditional diesel Transit type van is substantial.
Looking at the chart below which details vehicle annual running costs (in relation to diesel or electric power), we can instantly see the cost-efficiencies of using the Esagono vs a traditional diesel vehicle. Savings of over £2000 per year are shown in the figures below which are based on vehicles operating in a city centre environment, conducting short journeys daily.
Annual fuel/power costs Esagono Electric Van vs Typical Diesel Mid Size Van
Electric Esagono Vehicle | Diesel Vehicle | |
Cost Per Mile | £0.03 | £0.31 |
Cost Per 100 Miles | £3.08 | £31.05 |
Yearly Miles | 8000 | 8000 |
Days Working Per Year | 365 | 365 |
Daily Miles | 22 | 22 |
Yearly Total Fuel Costs | £246.65 | £2,484.00 |
On top of the benefiting of fuel savings, organisations also find maintenance costs are reduced for the Esagono electric vehicle.
Being a fully road legal electric vehicle the Esagono is exempt from road tax costs and congestion charges in areas such as London. Road tax for diesel vans can range from £140 to £255 per year and with the price of the London congestion charge costing £11.50 per day, significant savings can be made.
Additionally, thanks to simpler mechanics and fewer moving parts, maintenance costs are considerably lower than a traditional van.
With its compact size, the Esagono electric van is the perfect solution for delivery companies operating in old historic towns such as York and Edinburgh, with narrow winding lanes which traditional vans cannot reach.
Earlier this year we covered a topic on a report drafted by Edinburgh Old Town Community Council and how the historic city centre is struggling to cope with modern traffic. Here they recommended a total ban on vehicles over a certain size, highlighting some of the changes councils are willing to make to ensure a more pleasant environment for the residents who live there.
The Esagono electric van offers a smart solution for councils and municipalities to work towards their emission targets, along with being a perfect vehicle for small and large companies looking to adapt to reduce their carbon footprint and adapt to new emissions regulations which will come into force in the foreseeable future.
